Author: Jacky
Label:Short Drama

Insightrackr has released the February 2026 Global Short Drama App Rankings for Downloads and Revenue, based on its comprehensive monitoring of the worldwide mobile market.

These rankings are derived from Insightrackr’s estimated downloads and total revenue (IAP + IAA), listing the Top 15 Short Drama Apps by Downloads and the Top 15 Short Drama Apps by Revenue. Beyond the rankings themselves, we further analyze the underlying growth drivers by examining advertising cadence, channel mix, regional targeting, and ad creative strategies.

Featured case studies this month: BonusTV, PineDrama, and Story Max.

Top 15 Short Drama Apps by Downloads

The competitive landscape at the top remains relatively stable. DramaReels, published by Kunlun Tech and ranked No. 1 last month, retains its Top 1 position in February, demonstrating continued resilience in user acquisition.

However, even within this stable structure, notable fluctuations emerged. Reelshort saw a 32.41% MoM decline in downloads, dropping to No. 5—making it the steepest decline within this month’s Top 15. Such a contraction at the top tier signals intensifying competition.

Overall, most ranked apps experienced shifts of no more than three positions, suggesting a relatively consolidated top cohort. One clear exception is BonusTV.

In February, BonusTV recorded a 76.86% MoM increase in downloads, the highest growth rate in the download rankings, successfully climbing to No. 14. In an increasingly stable competitive environment, its growth stands out as a significant signal.

Revenue performance also reflects overall stability. Among the Top 15, 10 apps posted MoM revenue changes within ±10%, indicating that monetization models at the top tier are entering a more mature phase.

NetShort replaced DramaBox to claim the No. 1 position by revenue, suggesting that top players continue to compete through marginal optimization in conversion efficiency and monetization structure.

DramaReels is particularly noteworthy. The app achieved a 28.29% MoM revenue increase in February—the largest gain within the Revenue Top 15. Since the beginning of the year, its performance has shown consistent breakthroughs. We previously analyzed its advertising strategy in last month’s ranking report.

Meanwhile, MicroDrama recorded the largest revenue decline among the Top 15, with a 22.33% MoM decrease in February.

Top Short Drama App UA Strategy Analysis

01 BonusTV

BonusTV is published by Hangzhou Judian Network, positioned as a comprehensive short drama platform covering development, production, global distribution.

According to Insightrackr’s monitoring data, BonusTV’s recent advertising activity has followed a cyclical fluctuation pattern. Daily active ad creatives were generally kept below 100 per day, peaking at approximately 90 per day in early February before declining to around 50 per day by month-end. There are no signs of aggressive high-density scaling; instead, the pattern suggests iterative optimization alongside controlled spend.

BonusTV ad, download & revenue trends

Its media mix is highly concentrated: over 90% of ad impressions come from Meta Ads, with a smaller share allocated to TikTok.

Regionally, the strategy reveals a more nuanced picture. While the United States, the Philippines, and Malaysia ranked highest in ad targeting volume, actual download conversions were heavily concentrated in Indonesia (27.46%), Brazil (20.05%), and the Philippines (15.60%), which together accounted for over 60% of total downloads.

Revenue contribution follows a similar pattern, led by Indonesia and the Philippines, with Mexico joining the top three markets. Together, these three markets contribute over 50% of total revenue.

This structure indicates that BonusTV is steadily building a monetization loop centered on Southeast Asia and Latin America within the global market.

From an ad creative perspective, the majority of its assets are adapted from translated Chinese short drama clips. In February, there was a noticeable increase in “child protagonist” themes, including Love, Not Lost to Memory and Captain at Eight.

The former follows a classic emotional arc—“crying young girl + identity twist”—to drive empathy-based engagement. The latter creates impact through strong narrative contrast, featuring a young boy rescuing a malfunctioning airplane. This shift suggests a transition from emotion-driven hooks toward tension-driven narrative hooks.

02 PineDrama

PineDrama is a new short drama app launched by ByteDance in January. Following earlier products such as Melolo and PikoShow, this release signals a multi-product portfolio strategy aimed at broader category coverage.

Its advertising curve reflects a typical scaling phase for a new product. Since late January, daily active ad creatives surged from fewer than 100 per day to nearly 1,000 per day—an exponential expansion in intensity.

The channel mix focuses on Meta Ads, supplemented by AdMob and TikTok. Regional targeting is more concentrated, with the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil collectively accounting for over 50% of ad distribution.

Insightrackr estimates that PineDrama generated nearly 3 million downloads in February, ranking No. 16 within the short drama category. Downloads were heavily concentrated in Indonesia and Brazil, which together contributed more than 60%.

On the revenue side, there is currently insufficient data for quantitative analysis. Market sources suggest that PineDrama has adopted a “fully free” model, allowing users to log in via TikTok accounts and access all content without charge.

Creatively, during its scaling phase, PineDrama emphasizes “content abundance.” Many ad creatives feature multi-drama mashups with fast pacing rather than extended single-drama storytelling.

Additionally, some creatives simulate short-video platform interfaces, incorporating UI elements such as like, comment, and follow buttons along the right side of the screen. This approach lowers cognitive friction and enhances click intent by mirroring familiar user experiences.

03 Story Max

Story Max was launched in January by Indian company Greenhorn Wellness. Insightrackr estimates that the app surpassed 2 million downloads in February, ranking No. 18 within the short drama category.

Greenhorn Wellness also operates Eloelo, a local social gaming and video streaming platform in India, providing it with established content and traffic infrastructure.

Ad monitoring data indicates that Story Max followed a “test–optimize–scale” trajectory. In early February, daily active ad creatives quickly rose to approximately 1,200 per day, dipped mid-month, and then rebounded to exceed 1,400 per day by month-end.

Story Max ad, download & revenue trends

Meta Ads serves as the primary channel, with additional impressions from AdMob.

Unlike the previous two cases, Story Max demonstrates extreme market concentration: nearly all ad placements and downloads originate from India.

In terms of ad creatives, similar to other India-based short drama apps previously analyzed, Story Max deploys a substantial number of original Indian drama clips. These assets typically feature high production quality, strong cultural alignment, and localized voiceovers.

This strategy aligns with a broader pattern among Indian domestic players—building competitive moats through deep localization rather than expanding aggressively across multiple markets.

At the same time, Story Max has tested selected Western original dramas dubbed in Hindi, forming a hybrid structure of “local originals as the core, supplemented by translated global content.”

The above summarizes the download, revenue, and advertising dynamics of global short drama apps in February 2026.
